That is the way charity used to be. Giving one the basic food to sustain life until they can get back on their feet. Even churches and soup kitchens served soup, not roast beef or steak and lobster. It is just common sense that the receivers should not be eating better than the givers. Giving people debit cards does not assure the children are getting actual food. People sell their card balances for cash and buy drugs.

Assuming the OP is an American citizen who pays taxes, it is his business.

so because YOU pay taxes,this equates to YOU,in the form of the government,now have a right to dictate how a person chooses to spend their benefits? and can we expand this to other programs? by your logic,any taxpayer has a right to dictate to another how they live their lives.

who would decide what is a "staple"?
and how would you implement this new program?
would you have a big truck driving around doling out government cheese? would those staples be mailed? or maybe a wharehouse?

or would you implement a WIC kind of system,limiting peoples ability for choice,specifying which food stuffs are acceptable and allowable?

I am trying to understand here,because most rightwingers advocate for LESS government,but in this instance are actually advocating for MORE government intrusion.

WOW! You actually are saying that tax payers have no right to voice their opinion on what their money is being spent on? Communist? You think only the "government" has a say? They are there to serve the will of the people!

I think governments should be clearer on what tax is spent for and allow people to chose what they want to spend their tax money on. I think the slogan of the Sons of Liberty was 'No Taxation without Representation'
