My point was rather that the current situation cannot be compared to the situation in Reagan's time. I mean in WWII (as a Dutch I know this all too well) Germany and the Netherlands were at war, and now 75 years later the Netherlands would be bankrupt if Germany goes downhill and if the Netherlands goes downhill Germany may not be bankrupt, but would suffer very dearly nonetheless... Plus the two governments foster a good relationship now...
My point was rather that the entire situation in Reagan's time was different, now that we are 5 presidents later and more than a decade has passed. Also reading the first paragraph of the article (short on time, so I might read the entire article later), this is rather a bypassing of a law brought in by the democrats, rather than a direct attack as we've seen under Trump. And preventing to spread "communism" (or rather the influence of the Soviet Union, as I refuse to call it communism) was also a big concern in Reagan's time...
I hope I have time soon to read that entire article as it does look like an interesting read... However whatever is described in full there... I will not really link that to what happened in Iran recently... But I'd rather see that as two (maybe not the best) actions...
