So your family didn't do Santa growing up or you didn't buy it?

No we didn't do santa
K8. M

Well that explains it. My question was more for those who were told about Santa growing up and did that tradition.

Same.

I was told at a young age and spoiled it for the kids plus we didn't have a chimney

I don't quite remember when or why I stopped believing, although I don't think I needed to be told. I suppose there just came a point when I became aware at how ridiculous the idea of a Santa was.

I starting questioning the whole idea pretty early on. I think it was seeing that after Christmas there were still homeless people and starving children I figured a man as good as Santa wouldn't have passed them over. Plus the whole logistics of stopping at every single house in the world in a 12 hour period didn't seem possible to me. And why would he choose the one time of the year people are building fires to go down chimneys? lol. What put the nail in the coffin was finding a pile of toys in my parent's room. I believe in St. Nicholas and the real historic man behind the idea but I'm not really going to get into the whole Santa deal with my kids. They know where their gifts come from and that's not really our focus anyway.

I asked my parents

There was a state farm commercial where the parents were wrapping the presents and I found about the total population of the world

Well that escalated quickly. I wonder how many people sued statefarm for ruining their Christmas? Lol

My parents never actually came out and said it, we just sort of figured it out. Then one year for Christmas, my mom was talking about some gift that "Santa" (made the air quotes and everything) was getting for us and it just sort of nonchalantly made it official. I'd say it was more of a natural progression that just really ended up with a "womp womp womp" that was barely audible.

Are you doing the Santa tradition with your daughter?
0 ups, 5y,

Yeah, but I could really go either way with it. My wife likes the idea of it so we're going with it, although my daughter really doesn't get it and really doesnt care for Santa at the mall or whatever.

Yes I know I know, kate and I were talking about my non-imgflip adopted daughter. Cant say I've ever talked about Santa with Monochrome...I think shes old enough to know!

If santa was real, and he made stuff....

That explains why he can’t get me a trombone

I think your parents might not want you to have one so they told him no.

I know what you mean. It was magical and fun as a kid waking up Christmas morning. It changed after that. But its still special in a different way.

not for me. I was scared of him. I was a smart kid and i knew that when you watched someone and snuck into his/her house, that was weird. and scary, especially if they have "magic"

He sees you when you’re sleeping ;)

I thought of Africa. My husband is from Nigeria is why I ask. They didn't do Santa either. I think its a bigger deal here in America.

I looked it up and it seems to me he's a pedophile. "He sees you when your sleeping, he knows when you're awake" that line is really creepy.
K8. M
3 ups, 5y
Lol. No not a pedo. That's just a silly song. Nicholas was a Bishop who lived in the 4th century in Greece and he did kind deeds for others that after his death grew into a legend and from that the toy industry made Santa into a huge marketing scheme. The Santa of today has little to do with the historic figure.

It is horrible. Satan Claus. Satan is the father of lies and Satan Claus is one of the 1st lie a child gets told.

Right Kate ;)

Actually, santa is more of a christmas mascot. he lives inside the christmas spirit.

I learned early, maybe 6 or 8 years old. I don't really remember believing in Santa. My divorced parents used me as a weapon against each other.

Don't f**k your kids up just to hurt someone else.

Which side did you gravitate towards?
1 up, 5y,

Moms side, because they didn't require that I participate in (what I consider to be) a cult-like religion. Something about leaving the church pissed off dads side...

I see. My parents split when I was 7. On my sister's 5th birthday. But we had no religion. I gravitated to my dad's side.

Kids definitely take the brunt of the damage in divorce. I don't think anyone gets through it undamaged.

Altho I said that it was for the best if both sides would be happier when it happened, my mother told me years later that my handwriting went to shit overnight.

My wife went dyslexic for a year when her parents divorced. I think that's super weird, but who knows....everyone handles stress differently.
2 ups, 5y
Yes, the subconscious is a powerful thing. I honestly thought i didn't feel bad about it at the time. I suppose for generations, a family splitting up was usually the cause of war or disease.
