Trumps defense was that the impeachment proceedings were unconstitutional, so he took no part in it.

Tell a court that your indictment grand jury is unconstitutional and you won't take part. Let me know how that goes.

The difference is "impeachment" according to the law is a vote of 2/3rds of congress. All the other stuff is pure nonsense. Congress cannot compel anyone from the Executive branch to show up and testify. Its written in the constitution as clear as day.

Nonetheless, not showing up for one's own defense is a TERRIBLE idea. Trump is either not listening to his lawyers or has terrible lawyers.

Bad example. If this was actually a court, instead of a partisan political hack hit job, the judge would have thrown it out due to lack of evidence.

First, this IS a legal proceeding analogous to an indictment/trial process. Second, the impeachment is essentially an indictment, where the only question is does the prosecution have a case that should go to trial?

Have you never heard the lawyers' expression "you can get an indictment against a ham sandwich"? It is NOTORIOUSLY easy to secure an indictment.

So, no. No way in hell would a judge actually throw this out. The evidence is there, the case is there, and if you want to argue against all of that, the proper thing to do is to let the case go to trial.
