however, this practice is pretty much SOP for our political class.
so to go after trump on the emoluments clause would expose their own abuse in our current "pay to play" political circus.this dynamic can be replayed on many of the impeachable offenses, and in my opinion,is why Pelosi refused to impeach for so long.
I mean,in 2006 Pelosi had a chance to impeach bush, after it was revealed that the Iraq war was an illegal war, based on lies.Pelosi was on the senate intelligence committee and she already KNEW that Iraq was an illegal war, based on lies.
and she chose not to seek articles of impeachment because it would "divide the country".
which is just political word salad for being a coward, and not wanting to face the music that she knew just as much as the president, and would suffer politically.
so there is an established reference point in which to judge Pelosi.
then we can add to this the fact that for over two years Pelosi stated publicly that "impeachment is off the table",even though congress had evidence of impeachable offenses perpetrated by trump.
until trump went after one their own.the elite class, the political class.then, and only then, was impeachment back on the table, and even THEN,pelosi made it a point to make the impeachment on a very small sliver sample of a fairly long list of offenses.
which is where my speculation originates.that Pelosi very carefully laser focused the charges in that tiny box, because to broaden that focus would expose the democrats for engaging in the exact same offenses as trump.
now I am not arguing against the impeachment.they do have a constitutional case, they have been following the constitutionally edicts on how to proceed.i just think the case is flimsy and weak, and we already know that it will die in the senate.
just because you CAN do something, does not mean you SHOULD do something, and I think this will ultimately hurt the democratic party far more than trump (in fact I think it hands trump the 2020 election) nor the republican party.
just my .02
