Is there such a thing as "non-cosmetic" plastic surgery? I'm not sure what cases would be considered in that category, give me an example.

Generally, no I don't believe it's warranted. I can understand some cases, say like when a woman has a mastectomy and wants to feel normal again, but to simply modify one's body just because seems awfully superficial to me, natural is always better.

Thanks for your input, Sparky :)
I would classify a lot of plastic surgery procedures as being '"non cosmetic" when the focus is on repairing or reconstructing birth, facial or body defects rather than improving or altering someone's appearance for the sake of vanity. I would also classify breast reductions surgery as a non cosmetic procedure when it is undertaken to alleviate chronic back pain. Rhinoplasty surgery can also be undertaken to treat sinus problems. But I agree with you "natural is better".

I guess I have a self imposed definition of plastic surgery that directly correlates to cosmetics...maybe because I'm an american and we pioneered the movement, lol. I see rhinoplasty and breast reduction as medically necessary surgeries (sometimes) that do not involve the addition of plastic or fillers for looks. Those surgeries are for the benefit of the patient, say for a deviated septum or as you said back pain relief. To even use the term "plastic" in the phrase implies adding to what is already there with a synthetic material, and those surgeries usually involve removal of something, not to be confused with liposuction which again is cosmetic and lazy for those that dont want to go on a diet.

Lol, I guess we do have a different definition of what plastic surgery is. Nevermind, you still answered the question ;)

I hear some people get addicted to cosmetic procedures and usually end up an unrecognisable mess.

I’ll pass thanks
Peace.

Yikes! I don't understand it myself. But I'm also a big believer in "each to their own" and "as long as it makes you happy"

Stay naturally beautiful :) I can live with seeing breast implants though, but natural is better ;)

Well, if it isn't dramatic, doesn't put you in the poor house and if you don't get addicted to it, I say do what makes you happy.

I think that's probably the best approach to it :)

Even if I think it's for a stupid reason, I don't necessarily care either way, save for reconstruction surgery

It definitely wouldn't be for me but I agree with "do what makes you happy" :)

Not to put people down that are into it. It reveals
a level of insecurity that turns me off.

Im against it.... I mean, yeah, its not natural at all. And, IDK if you heard about it, but there was a medical scandal that girls/women that were getting breast implants were getting something wrong with their bodies, and that they ended up in the hospital and they had to get them removed....

So I guess that kinda left me with a bad taste in my mouth, even though I had nothing to do with it, you know? With plastic surgery in general.

I once underwent plastic surgery, but that was not for cosmetic reasons, but for real medical reasons, I was only told a few moments before I went to the surgery room that this was in fact plastic surgery as well, as I really didn't know that. My issue... Finger part almost ripped off the rest of my finger due to a car driver who did get his driving license too easily combined with wet grass and leaves and well, that didn't go too well for me...

When it comes to cosmetic modifications... Somebody close to me did a breast reconstruction after the real one being removed due to cancer... Does that count as "cosmetic"?

Of course you are speaking of people trying to become "more beautiful" only to end up becoming very extremely ugly in the end, and I've never understood the purpose of that one...

Age gracefully. You can’t fight Father Time. Spend the money on a vacation, memories are forever, beauty isn’t.
