I think so, and for a reason. When I was a younger I was very sick and passed out. I recall the sensation of leaving my body and rising up, hovering, seeing my own body below. I wasn't upset, but something told me it wasn't my time to go. I immediately returned to my body. Later, the medics told me my heart had stopped while they were working on me. So yes, I think we are more than our temporary physical existence.

I know other people who have shared a similar experience. Very interesting :)

:)

I imagine it happens more than many like to admit - OM's zealot jump to discredit the experience being a vivid example of why folks may be reluctant to talk or go into detail about the subject.

How can one provide evidence for what Norsey went through?

One day you may experience something and understand what it means to have faith.

If he has enough money for 5 dry grams of magic mushrooms, then sure.

To quote Doug Stanhope: "Don't just eat a mushroom stem and see colors, eat the whole bag and see God one time in your life."
And Doug is an atheist, mind you. So, make of that quote what you will.

Now that is a much more respectful comment instead of just throwing up questions even the most lauded scientists cannot answer with absolute authority.

I bet if you compared all these experiences there would be a commonality in the details that no one would be able to explain. Unless they all planned ahead of nearly dying what they would say when they came to, lol. Is human testimony not at all valid evidence? Isn't that what courts and jurys are for?

Such an explanation may be a popular fairytale used to explain the nature of the universe for those scared of a reality beyond this life, but I don't buy into it.

The reality would be that energy created never ceases to exist. At least not in our universe.

What if God is energy?

Seems very reasonable!

Because God is the source of all that is good. You were saying energy can't be created or destroyed and if its the source of all that exists God is the only being that fits the bill. Energy doesn't effect your daily life?

What doesn't it?

Her point is likely that since neither energy nor matter cannot be destroyed, it's only reasonable to assume that consciousness cannot be destroyed, either. That just like energy and matter can only shift from one form to another, consciousness, too, can only shift from one form to another.

Uh, i guess. My point actually was if energy is the force that created everything then why not just attribute that force to God?

Sorry, Katie. By "her", I meant norsegreen when she said that energy created never ceases to exist.

Well, prove to yourself that accepted science has never been wrong and you may find the answer to your question.

Yes i believe it, but believing in a soul is built on my belief in God and heaven. I don't think we're merely just creatures existing to live, reproduce and die without some higher purpose.

While I don't personally believe In the existence of a soul I acknowledge that it is possible that such a thing exists :)

The only possible afterlife scenario from my point of view is reincarnation. And it's something I believe happens after death.

Because the Universe is cyclical. Everything has it's patterns and cycles. Day and night, the tides, seasons, lunar phases, electrons spinning around the atomic core, satelites around the planet, planets around the star, stars around the black hole, etc. So, why shouldn't the same be applied to consciousness?

Yeah, as much as it sucks for our awesome sense of specialness, consciousness is just an action. Remove the mechanism that causes it or inhibit its functioning, and said action ceases.

I have a test anyone can take to prove it to me. Strangely, so far no takers.
It requires:
A bottle of wine.
A knife.
A loaded gun.

Drink wine, and see how independent consciousness is of the body.
If that doesn't convince them, take knifie, aim upwards towards the nose, lobotimize themself, and then let's talk.
If that doesn't convince them (though I doubt anything can with that level of brain damage), take gun, aim at head, and send me a message from the other side.

Bottom line is there's only so long a fart can be maintained outside of the colon.
