Lot of upvotes for this meme but few stepping in to defend it in the comments. Sad.

There's a few reasons why that might be, but to be honest, it's worth taking the reprieve because before too long you'll see all those upvoters in a much more involved flame war on a different thread. Conserve your energy!

Haha. Makes sense. I’m still relatively new here and still figuring out how it works.

Basically, there's people like us whose brain works properly, and there's people who... Well... It's a bit of a confirmation bias circle jerk.

And we get into fights and say horrible things about each other and arguably the one thing we all have in common is that we're the sort of people who get a kick out of this sort of toxic shit. But the key thing to remember is that there's more of them - the ultra-conservative weirdos - than there are us, the ones who go "wait a minute, that's not right."

So pace yourself. There will be many, many opportunities to roll your sleeves up and hack away at the comments. But if you try to rush it, they'll just call in for backup and try to drown you in floods of comments. Appreciate those times when your comments just sit there uncontested because it won't always be that way.

As difficult as it is sometimes, I like to engage because it is really the only thing I can think of that will have a chance of changing people’s minds. And I’m not yet 30 days so I can’t post in PoliticsTOO yet, lol.

It's a critical issue for all of us and of course keep telling them the truth no matter how angry it makes them.

But.

Remember, they have chosen climate change as one of the hills to die on. They have already decided that to backlash against liberalism, to backlash against the international community, and to backlash against the push for an energy policy that likely will sideline coal once and for all, they have decided that climate change HAS to be smeared and tarnished as a "liberal" deception. You will not change their minds. They have made a commitment to that, and it does defy all sense and reason, but they're not playing to be right - they're playing to disrupt the national conversation and control it.

So don't burn yourself out on one argument. There's more of them than there are of you: say your truth and move on. That really pisses them off - they hate being ignored.

Or would you prefer purer than Puritan country of people who almost died out because they didn't pack enough.
