Only 9% of Canada is powered by coal, with the end of coal fired plants phased out by 2030. We're doing our part

Yes I agree. Everyone should go nuclear like Canada

Even a coal plant burns at a more efficient production of energy than a car engine. A car engine has to operate at a varying rate of revolutions per minute, which makes it hard to predict and control where the energy goes to waste; a power plant knows its operating point. Thus for the same amount of energy, a power plant - even a coal one - release less CO2 than a car engine.

Wrong Einstein. All your great efficiency is lost in the process of transmitting that power through the power grid.

More than a car engine? No. Do the math, it's not that hard.

I was literally just talking about energy efficiency.

There's ALWAYS a benefit to doing things more efficiently.

Alright, your beef is with the OP for mentioning fossil fuels to begin with. Fossil fuels are a carbon thing by definition.

What you're talking about is the initial infrastructure costs to switching to electric cars. It's a capital-heavy project but ultimately worth it because we're wasting so much fuel just so that everyone can have their own horseless buggy. The world record for power plant efficiency is something like 67%, which compared to the crap 25% you get out of your own car means that we stand to cut out so much waste and pollution just by doing that.

At the very least, it's incentive enough to crunch some hard numbers to on it instead of asking FlatJim on imgflip what his personal guess is.

Good luck with that. It took a law just to have seat belts become standard.

???

The free market has consistently failed to find solutions it doesn't have to find. Again and again and again we've seen that if we want the market to solve something, we have to make them solve it.

I'm NOT satisfied one bit importing so much oil from foreign governments that are frankly nuts when we wouldn't even need to if we just start thinking long-term future. If we have to do that, could we at least minimize the amount of oil we buy by wasting less of it?
