Alright, your beef is with the OP for mentioning fossil fuels to begin with. Fossil fuels are a carbon thing by definition.
What you're talking about is the initial infrastructure costs to switching to electric cars. It's a capital-heavy project but ultimately worth it because we're wasting so much fuel just so that everyone can have their own horseless buggy. The world record for power plant efficiency is something like 67%, which compared to the crap 25% you get out of your own car means that we stand to cut out so much waste and pollution just by doing that.
At the very least, it's incentive enough to crunch some hard numbers to on it instead of asking FlatJim on imgflip what his personal guess is.
