YOU WANT FORGIVENESS? SHOW ME YOU DESERVE IT | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
I think forgiveness is something that we earn through taking responsibility for our actions and making a genuine effort to make amends. I would say however, that there are certain crimes that don't warrant forgiveness especially when the individual responsible doesn't show any remorse for what they have done.

Matrix Morpheus Meme | WHAT IF I TOLD YOU FORGIVING IS MORE FOR YOUR BENEFIT THAN FOR THE PERSON WHO HURT YOU | image tagged in memes, matrix morpheus | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
I agree it is certainly easier to forgive someone who is repentant but there is no guarantee they will be remorseful I think holding on to anger and resentment is a burden that no should feel impelled to carry. Let the crime rest on the perpetrator's head all his life if he chooses, it doesn't have to ruin the victim's life if he doesn't allow it to.

Of course I'm not saying be a total pacifist and let people trample all over you. No. Crimes should be punished accordingly, justice should be dealt, but at the same time you don't need to become an emotional victim for the rest of your life. That person then has power over you.

Amen sista! If only more people realized that concept. All too many expect an apology to be automatic when forgiving someone, and this doesnt always happen. Someone very close to me forgave her rapist, and he never once thought of apologizing, but she was able to move on with life. Doesnt mean she forgot though, it's not like they are best friends now, just means that shes committed to move on.

In theory, no...but it depends on how much grace one is willing to bestow. In practice I'd say there are many cases where we humans do not contain enough grace to truly forgive some people. I'm just thankful that God's grace is plentiful, lord knows I need it ;)

That's when we can at least ask God to forgive. Just as Jesus from the cross when He said "Faher forgive them for they know not what they do" I think he was speaking for his human nature which at times struggles to forgive. If we want forgiveness for our own sins we must also forgive as we pray in The Our Father. I've heard of people saying I'm not able to bring myself to forgive you right now but I ask God to.

Unpopular Opinion, but I always thought that Japan's Seppuku and/or Yubitsume rituals simplifies the hell out of apologies; there's no way of half-assing an apology.

Plus, if people expected this sort of thing, people would probably be a hell of a lot more polite with each other.

The Bible states that we should forgive those who have wronged us.
BUT, if they want to be forgiven by God, they have to ask for forgiveness themselves.

Extra thing:
The problem is that it's hard to forgive and forget.
Some things can scar you or other people so deeply you just want to scar them back.

Forgiving the unrepentant is sketchy.. by their continuing beyond reason, they say someone must bring me to judgment to end my entitlement.
