They are overdoing it for sure. When Obama ran the Republicans didn't have any viable candidate either time. (Ron Paul would have been interesting though.)
Same here. I voted for both of them 'guys' as well. I'm not so sure that McCain or Romney would've been any better than Obama, but like you say, there really were no good options.
