I think kids nowadays have phones much too soon. When they start driving a car is a reasonable age to me.

About 15, I'd say just in their teens. I didn't get my phone until the age of idk...11? I can't remember.

Old enough to drive? Old enough to have a cell phone...I don't understand the whole concept of kids needing phones. I don't think they should be allowed until they are able to get in a car and drive somewhere that they would not have access to a phone. That's when I got one, granted it was an old motorola with actual buttons and not a smartphone. My parents got it for me for emergencies if I broke down or something, and I only had a few minutes per week I could use it. That's a concept that I'm sure hasn't existed for at least 20 years now...

Yes, for emergencies is what parents claim when they give their 5-15 year old an iPhone. You can make calls on a flip phone just fine if they need their child to reach them. 99.9 percent of the time it's used for everything but emergencies. Besides most schools don't allow kids to just keep their phones in their person all day. At least the ones I've taught at phones had to be kept in lockers or in a box on the teacher's desk during class. In the event of a lockdown or emergency schools have ways of alerting parents.
