To one who lived through it, i see history repeating itself. Look at today's Democrats: their violent ANTIFA are nearly murderous like the lynching of those days. Their rioting Social Justice Warriors destroy property to prevent Free Speech like the burning crisses and fires. Newspapers colluded to protect the Klan like The MSM does today. This is not Fake News. This is Truth. I am from that era and here to attest that we thought that the Democrats in their white sheets, like Democratic Senator Robert Byrd, a bona fide member of the Klan, were evil for hurting Black People. The Democrats, then, were like today's ANTIFA -cowards who hid their faces so they could hurt others. The Klan were 99% Democrats. I know I was there. I don't post this in jest. Think about it: Lincoln was a Republican.
