Slavery was never a "states' right". The Confederate Constitution had a clause which would forbid any individual state to abolish slavery.

The Confederate Constitution was drafted after the Civil War began. So at the time of the war’s start it was about states rights....mainly the right to have slavery.

Actually, I'm a MAGA Republican (about as MAGA as you can get) and I think people who unironically believe this are either really misguided or really stupid. It is so obvious that it was about slavery.

And- the “conservative” party (that wanted to retain or “conserve” the old ways, states rights, slavery, etc) was the Democrats in the south. The “progressive” party (that wanted to abolish slavery and was for slaves rights) was the Republicans in the north. At the same time “conservative” democrats were starting the KKK as well.

The party ideologies have changed (swapped is more appropriate) since then but “conservatives” still fly the confederate flag and “progressives” are trying to get rid of them.

I'm not trying to get into a political argument, especially about the party switch theory, I am just saying I agree with you, and not all conservatives or MAGA supporters are like that.

Let's just leave it at that!

Again, I agree that the CW was for slavery, not states rights. That's all I wanted to say. Let's just leave it at that!
