Sadly Heinz died last year but I will always remember his sympathy when I lost my cat...
Dear **********
I come to you with sad OR happy news, but not with sad AND happy news.
First, let me clarify that, unfortunately, I haven’t found your cat. However, I think that I can give you already some piece of relevant information: from my experience in the field, I don’t think it is currently possible to transport the cat in a quantum superposition for too long, and therefore, by now decoherence must have taken action* and he/she must be either dead OR alive, but certainly not dead AND alive... :-( || :-)
Hoping that this doesn’t come as too much of a surprise, and rooting for the second alternative (“alive”), all the best from Munich,
H. Dieter Zeh, father of decoherence.
* I can asure you that I was not part of the environment that may have caused the decoherence process, nor I played any part in a measurement causing the collapse of the cat's wave function (at least not consciously).

Personal acquaintance? Sounds like an interesting story behind this cat...and it wasnt schrodinger...

Strange you mention Schrodinger and TimidDeer hasn't made an appearance as he lived in Clontraf for several years which amongst other things it resulted in the thinest book in the world was no longer the Irish Book of Knowledge. I'd better be careful or she my send some Tories round to sort me out...

The cat was called BGC, and he left me in the same way he arrived. BGC stood for big Big Ginger Cat, one day he found his was into my house went into the kitchen, jumped onto the table picked up a leg of lamb in his mouth and walked out with it, he was the biggest cat I've ever seen, like an average dog rather than a cat, he stayed with me for about two and a half years then one day he just went out of the door took a single glance back and left.
He was sighted by some people about nine kilometres away, they took some photographs of him, which made it to the local newspaper due to his size but he was never seen again. My veterinarian
said he was just I quote "the f**king biggest cat I've ever seen," everybody who meet him loved him, I still miss him.

When I was a student Prof. Bolan always recited this to all new students...
From The Indispensable Man
(by Saxon White Kessinger)
Sometime when you're feeling important;
Sometime when your ego 's in bloom;
Sometime when you take it for granted,
You're the best qualified in the room:
Sometime when you feel that your going,
Would leave an unfillable hole,
Just follow these simple instructions,
And see how they humble your soul.
Take a bucket and fill it with water,
Put your hand in it up to the wrist,
Pull it out and the hole that's remaining,
Is a measure of how much you'll be missed.
You can splash all you wish when you enter,
You may stir up the water galore,
But stop, and you'll find that in no time,
It looks quite the same as before.
The moral of this quaint example,
Is to do just the best that you can,
Be proud of yourself but remember,
There's no indispensable man.

When I turned up with a bucket snow and did leave a hole he realised I was going to be a Problem.

I love that analogy! Great way to put it, and your interpretation with the snow was very creative...sort of like saying you cant push a rope...but if you soak it and freeze it on the other hand...

Good men, both of them. Sagan's involvement with "Contact" was particularly fascinating, it was a great movie. Many other great achievements too, for real science, not just Hollywood.

Charles p. Steinmetz, this mans work is why tesla was able to invent so much.

viktor schauberger, the tesla of water

True, Steinmetz pioneered much of the alternating current theory that Tesla championed, but he sold out to Edison and General Electric so I take some points away from him on character :) Good man though, very smart, and his ideas propelled the electrical age into what it is today.

Tesla was a visionary far ahead of his time. Too bad Edison was suck a horrible person.

But I enjoy theoretical physics and Peter Higgs probably tops my list.
2 ups, 5y
Higgs was a pretty revolutionary physicist, I mean the guy has a particle named after him so that's pretty bad ass right? I never got far into theoretical physics but studied quantum physics a bit in college. It was an add on course to my differential equations and physics courses, and I really enjoyed it honestly. Don't remember much of what I learned though, it's been over a decade and we only just touched on some of the concepts.

He was an amazingly creative & interesting person.

Linkola is a Finnish deep ecologist known for having hardcore misanthropic views regarding the environmental crisis. He is sometimes credited as the founder of the so-called Eco-Fascism (a combination of regular Fascism and Environmentalism. For the reference, Brenton Tarrant, the guy who shot up the mosques in New Zealand this year, is an Eco-Fascist).
He has wrote several books, all of them in Finnish, since he doesn't know English. There is a fan translation of his latest book, called "Can Life Prevail? A Revolutionary Approach to the Environmental Crisis".
Believe it or not, this guy actually won an Eino Leino Prize (a prize given to the best Finnish author of the year) in 1983.

So, what do I like about this guy, you may ask. Simple: honesty. This guy is the definition of brutal honesty, and he has my respect for it. And I can't say he's completely wrong, either. In the words of George Carlin: "For centuries now, man has done everything he can to destroy, defile, and interfere with Nature: clear-cutting forests, strip-mining mountains, poisoning the atmosphere, over-fishing the oceans, polluting the rivers and lakes, destroying wetlands and aquifers... so when Nature strikes back, and smacks him on the head and kicks him in the nuts, I enjoy that. I have absolutely no sympathy for human beings whatsoever. None. And no matter what kind of problem humans are facing, whether it's Natural or man-made, I always hope it gets worse."

As for Boyan, see the picture

Linkola sounds like he has quite a different take on things, but as you say he is honest if nothing else. I know Boyan now that you showed me that, and yes that image is pretty spot on. Thanks for sharing, as always :)
