Purpose is not necessary, nobody promised you things would make sense. Facts don't care about your feelings, the main difference between Atheists and religious people is that we don't choose what to believe in, we just accept things the way they are. Just because you believe in a god does not change that fact in any way, it just gives you a nice story to tell yourself before bed so you will feel like less of a looser, it's not helping, you are still a looser.
