I have heard Huckabee and Robertson referred to with derision by a right winger sero times. They control votes, which is all that matters to the so called conservatives in the Republican Party. The lession of 2016 is that elections are all about addition and subtraction. When the formerly reliable far left vote was subtracted by Putin's Sanders gambit, Clinton lost. Trump cannot stand to lose any of the blocs or major parts thereof in his coalition, and win. And, how can a guy who calls himself "Timber," not appreciate the symbolism of using a guy who was turned on by one of his allies as a "backdrop?"

They have "nothing to do with God," in your opinion. Robertson says God talks to him all the time.

Trump won in 2016 by losing the popular vote, but winning the Electoral College by a razor thin margin. I can't see any evidence that he has expanded his support among Democrats and left leaning independents. Every group that is not traditionally right leaning, seems to have softened in their support for him. If he is not Impeached, found guilty and removed, he will be gone in January of 2019.

The number of individial votes that produced those Electoral Votes were the results of razor thin margins. We will see who dances to Trump's tune in 2020. He loses allies, daily. When his unpopularity affects Senate contests, he will lose more.

As far as those "Evangelicals," are concerned, I am not going to get myself in a position of defending their beliefs. I am an atheist. The people who are loyal to them, are not automatically loyal to Trump.

2019 was a typo, and/or wishful dreaming. 2021 is what I meant. Sorry.

The Electoral College was won by 107,000 total votes in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. That is less than 0.09% of the total vote. This hard data is neither "Leftist," or Rightist." That would seem to meet an objective deginition of "razor thin."

Why the personal insult? As I understood "the swamp," and I am not a member of the radical right, so I don't speak the language, was that it was created and occupied by political appointees. I was a Civil Servant who worked for and with many political appointees, most of them during the Reagan-Bush years. Like all civil servants I know, I did my job serving these political appointees to the best of my ability, without reservation. I am proud to have served my country and our Veterans for about 30-years. I did so much good during those years, that I do not protest for the sake of my ego. I do so to stand up for the millions of civil service employees who were paid much less than I was and worked under less interesting and rewarding circumstances. They kept our hospitals open, our cemeteries clean and our disabled Veterans benefits delivered on time. They do not deserve to be labeled as "swamp," dwellers.

At all times I was accontable to Title 38 and Title 5 of the United States Code. I got copies of the results of all of the routine audits our Inspector General did to determine that we were doing our jobs. I doubt that many people you know could stand up to the scrutiny by managers, outside investigators, accrediting agencies and others that we faced routinelyI know, because I saw people who thought government employment was a walk in the park, come and go. There is a bit more of an iota of accountability in the Federal "bureaucracy," I worked in. I am not suprised that you don't see this. Most Civil Servants just do their jobs.

Finally, we did not tell people what to do, let alone tell them what was good for them, unless we were treating them in a hospital or clinic.. In fact, our motto was "How may I serve you?" We knew our role. And, I didn't do what I did to make you or anyone else happy. I did it because serving my fellow Veterans made me happy.

If I was a Trump Troll, I'd write something like, "You never laugh about or at Pat when he supports Trump." But, I suspect you find his rantings to be ridiculous, no matter what. Seriously, if Trump loses one sector of the odd bedfellows that make up the current Republican coalition, he cannot win re-election. Reverend Reed did call for Evangelical solidarity behind Trump. But, among those who w**re Jesus for money, he is the Whoriest. It is hard to tell how much influence he has outside his teleflock.

Hmmm, good point but are the evangelists going to support the dems, or the anti Christian party? Maybe just not vote?

All they have to do is not vote for him. They don't have to switch alliances. With George Will and a long list of real conservatives calling for people to not vote for him, he faces a challenge with the small number of philosophically pure in his party. Take a handful here and a handful there and it adds (or subtracts) up.
