I've not cared for cats in quite a while, but I did have a silver tabby growing up and it was one of the most affectionate and playful pets I have ever had. He would sleep on the bed, and all you had to do was put your ear to him and he would purr so loud, even when sound asleep. For dogs, I have to say beagles, I have one now and wish I could clone her a few times, she is an awesome dog. I've always liked them though, hunting dog in a small package, hound dog bark with a lapdog mentality, and great house pets too.
