The best purchase: a plane ticket from Texas to Marland to meet my future husband for the first time

Worst purchase: I spent $800 on a remote control airplane for my dad. But turns out there was no place he could have practically used it (no where to take off and land a 10 foot toy. So I had to return it to the hobby shop for store credit but then it ended up going out of business.

I have made many smart purchases, but this one made my life so much easier. Before I had a wheelbarrow that after filling it three times and hauling it up my mountain to the dump spot I would be done. Bought this and filled it five times to overflowing (10 cubic feet compared to 3 cubic feet) and went inside and told the wife I just did a year's worth of work and I wasn't even tired yet.

Worst is our American Standard Champion 4 toilet. Turns out it has a design flaw that causes the gasket to fail after a period of time and it was running so much that it started to drain our well. But we didn't know that and had a well company come out and it cost us a lot of money to find out it was a $6 part. Now we are waiting for our plumber to put in a new one for us. (He's our son's best friend and for us he won't charge full price)

Wheelbarrows, to me make no sense. Not only do they not hold much you're left trying to push and balance a load on one wheel. Wagons for the win! That toilet wasn't such a champion it sounds like, lol.

A wagon is a good thing

Bought the center stone for my wife's engagement ring from a wholesaler I knew at the time. It's a certified diamond so really good quality with pedigree, then bought her ring from a retailer and had them set the stone. After I had it appraised, turns out it was worth 3 times what I put into it.

Bad purchase? Not really a bad one, but I sold some stock during the recession to put a downpayment on my house (first home and no equity) so I took a horrible hit on value. Many years later, I'd have done things differently but I guess that's how we make our way. Still have the home, and whatever money was lost in the stock sale has come back two fold, so long term not too bad.

Stocks are a tough one. My dad invested in gold during the recession and it has really paid off.

That’s also known as Google if you didn’t know. They have been retired for twenty years and still have as much money in their retirement account as the day they retired.

Wow. Are they rolling in it now? You never know when a small startup company will become big. That's neat.
