I tend to think Libs (especially the "progressive" ones) jump on the bandwagon after mass shootings for two reasons : 1. as a political feel-good ointment which gives their voters a false sense of protection, 2. they really do not want the public able to form any armed militia that can defend the common citizenry from an October Revolution-type takeover. And laugh as you may by the latter thought, but my paternal grandmother's people suffered slaughter and genocide at the hands of the Bolsheviks, so there is indeed a precedent for such a heinous scenario. The progressive wing of the U.S. is quickly turning into the party of brute anarchism (and act under the according belief they are the instruments of virtue and righteousness). If we are not very prudent about the power we give away to wolves posing as shepherds then history will simply repeat itself.
