FBI_OPEN_UP says I should bring fried okra, so I guess I'll go with that. For the appetizer, I'll bring smoked, bacon wrapped and cream cheese stuffed jalapeno poppers.

you bring squash, i got the okra, all we'd need is some fried green tomatoes and we'd have the trifecta of southern fried vegetables, lol

Done! We got tons of tomatoes this year since I invested in the "squirrelinator" squirrel trap. (my daughter insisted I catch & release so I took em to a park a few miles away) now the little buggers aren't robbing me blind!

Yeah, we've been at war for a few years now. It's ironic - you go out looking for 'em in the woods, not a squirrel to be seen. Come home where you can't kill 'em in city limits - they're throwing a party in my back yard. Though my friend told me if they're a nuisance (and oh my god they are) then it's open season on them. I kicked around the idea of taking them for fritters but that's too much work skinning for just a handful of meat and I'm not that hungry.

same here, i usually cook what i kill, but i make exceptions for squirrels! i have a guy that i bring them to if i can though. squirrel dumplings are actually really good, but as you say it's a lot of work for a little bit of meat.

HA! I was gonna say poppers - love those. I'll have to think of something else with bacon.
Then again, you can never have too many jalapeno poppers.

My personal peeve when you ask friends to bring a dish and they show up with chips or pop. Like I made the effort to clean my house, cook an entire meal for you. At least bring wine or a cake from the store. Lol

A particularly eccentric family friend of ours is known to bring elaborate stuff to family gatherings, and then basically stand guard over the food so no one gets any. Then they pack it all up, complain that no one ate much, and take it home to have leftovers for the next week. So weird. So, what would you bring?

I have this delicious recipe from my grandmother that I can make blindfolded. Cut up chicken breast, cut up potatos, cut up sausage. Bake it all with a little oil and seasoning. Never fails to please a crowd.

LOL there's an old widow that brings these desserts to the shop guys where I work because they take care of her property...the owner's wife leaves them out for about 5 minutes then swipes it to take home to her grandkids hahahahaha. What the hell is wrong with people?!

my wife is a baker, she did a wedding cake for her uncle and etiquette is that either the caterer will take care of slicing the cake or will ask the cake person to do it for them. They said they would do it, and sliced about half the wedding cake and put out on the table for everyone, and proceeded to put the rest in a cooler and took home with them all while saying it was all gone! my wife was sooo pissed.

Depends on the friends. Some are hotheads, bring fried jalapenos covered in jack cheese or my chili. More mellow types? I make a pretty good pot pie or maybe a rice dish with some sort of chicken (Orange or maybe teriyaki)

i'm sure it will be delicious! my mom's recipe actually calls for a little touch of sour cream in the pudding, and lemme tell ya...that sets it off like you wouldn't believe, it's incredible!

That makes sense-a little acidity with all the sweetness of the pudding!!

my favorite for the backstrap is to hit it with some bbq rub, wrap it in bacon and then smoke it for an hour or so...delicious!
