Probably upvote their own comments with an alt account too for a double whammy

I try very hard not to make enemies online. I have gotten into it with some of the top memers due to politics, but made sure they knew I upvote their jokes. I would venture into politics more, but it's too bile filled now and I stay away.

But remove politics and what do you know? We share a common sense of humor and probably a lot more.

it all comes down to points...and i could care less about points. I'm here for the conversations and commeradery. if i get points, awesome. If someone downvotes them away...eh i'm not losing any sleep. Only time i can think of that it becomes an issue is when people gang up on any one user and bully them. You been having issues?

More a general overview of the topic rather than myself specifically. There are at least 15-20 users I can see that are regularly getting downvoted, on the majority of their comment threads.

Yeah, I see it a lot in the politics section, but they're pretty ruthless in that stream. Bad thing is, they've made enemies of some folks and so it becomes an attack on all of their memes and comments, not just the ones in the politics stream. But, of those I know, most of them dish it out pretty heavily in addition to catching it so it doesn't surprise me. I just try to get along with everyone and it works for the most part. I'll disagree with some things on occasion, respectfully, and haven't had too much of an issue with general nastiness. But again, it may also be my approach of "I don't give a crap if you upvote or downvote me" that keeps me out of it too, it gets under the skin of some users and then people will do it just to aggravate. If they know I really don't care, maybe it doesn't happen as much...or maybe I just don't notice it because of that exact reason, lol. cheers mate.

Yeah I post in politics about once a month now.
Just have fun on there though, never too serious or divisive subject (any more)
I honestly couldn’t give two sh!t$ about it either, I don’t like seeing others downvoted who don’t deserve it, they probably don’t have any idea it’s happening anyway. If the comment is funny or clever enough it will still get more upvotes eventually, so it’s no big deal 🤷🏼‍♂️

Can think of a few who would downvote me, but just more confused really by others being dowvoted. I've seen a couple of yours, Timiddeer, Triumph, Readjusted..Loads of others this past month. But they're always the best or top comments so it's not out of disliking the content of it. More jealousy or desperation I guess 🤷‍♂️

Not that I get a lot of comments on my memes or make a ton of comments, but how can we tell our comments or memes get downvoted? I've seen low rated comments in politics a lot but it doesn't say how many downvotes.

You will see comments on memes that have say 4 upvotes and other comments with just 3 upvotes are above it. I took a screenshot of one here lol.

Still not seeing what you are saying, from my understanding from a MOD it has to do with hotness. Which is why on the front page you see something with 20 upvotes but one of mine stalled on page 2 with 43. How hot and how fast was the logarithm explanation.

Which is why I was just curious if you saw something different than I do about downvotes! :)

I wonder how many downvotes it takes to go to hidden. I've seen hidden low rated comments with 3 upvotes.

I don't claim to upvote every comment on a meme when I upvote, so maybe after time the one with 3 will go back under the one with 4?

I understand your hotness thing, as in the rate at which memes are getting upvotes.
I think the way comments are ranked works differently though, to the way memes are positioned on stream pages.
If there was a meme without any downvoted comments, the order of the first comments starting a thread, will simply be the amount of upvotes each has, no matter how quickly one has gained upvotes.
If multiple comments have the same amount of upvotes, the highest one will always be the one that was most recently upvoted to the same number as the rest.

I tried once and it took 3 downvotes to hide a comment (With 0 upvotes) Not sure if it changes with each upvote. I.e. a comment with 1 upvote takes 4 downvotes to hide it

That's a little more clearer. But then who really cares where the comment falls if we sort. I for one would love to see the # downvotes (on memes also). I think it was spurs that said we used to see that here. Maybe that would curtail some of it. Thank for you explanation!

My dad is a user on here (on the all time leaderboard may I add lol) and I had originally singed up here with a google account for a day or so before I created this profile I have now. We waited for someone to comment on my dads meme I downvoted, he did and I logged back into the old account I had and downvoted it too. We removed the downvotes once the test was completed 😆

Yeah I know you could see downvotes and I wouldn’t be opposed to seeing that reintroduced.

I just feel sorry for them more than anything.

Sometimes they see the leader board or the front page and feel resentful that they aren't there, but what they don't realize is it's not that hard to get there! Just socializing in here will get someone up there. Genuine interaction of course, not generic and irrelevant "LOL" comments. I try to help new users who talk about their goals understand this. I actually prevented a down vote campaign. Someone tried to get me to get in on it, and attempted to recruit others. I was able to talk sense into them before they embarked.
