No, we can't! Cis and trans have been directly opposite terms for thousands of years, like up and down or near and far. Nothing pseudo-intellectual about it. We don't call it Transjordan and Normaljordan, do we?

Can you cite a single source in the 1800's of anyone calling a heterosexual 'cis'?

Heterosexual is not the opposite of transsexual. Heterosexual is the opposite of homosexual. Homo and hetero are opposites of each other. As in heterogeneous and homogenous. Nothing political about it.

Same bloody thing. Cisalpine-Gaul and trans-alpine Gaul. Cis-isomers and trans-isomers. Words have meanings. Trans means "on the other side of" and cis means "on this side of". If that offends you, file a complaint with the ancient Romans.

That's all cool, you still haven't provided any evidence outside of the 1900 and beyond to refering to anyone as cis. I'm not dispute that the term exists.

Before transgender visibility was what it is today, I suppose the most likely way to come across the terms (short of studying Latin cartography) would be through chemistry. Trans-fats and cis-fats, anyone?

But yeah, "cis" definitely wasn't pulled out of thin air.
