He could, but he doesn't.

No, he can't. He'd literally have to change the Constitution, which is something he can't do.

Since when have written laws stopped tyrants? They just use force to make people do what they want. Trump may not be the U.S. best president, he's not a tyrant unlike, for example, Kim Jong-Un.

The Constitution was written specifically to safeguard against tyrants. If you wanted to take over the US from within, you'd have to overwhelmingly control all three branches of government and have the support of the military (which is made up of common citizens) to quell a citizenry that has actual agency in the electoral process.

Or you would have to control the Supreme Court (which would just require one more of his people in there) and effectively nullify the checks and balances powers granted to Congress (which he's been haphazardly working on doing the whole time he's been in office). Do I think he's a tyrant? Nah. He's just a megalomaniac who can't stand it when people tell him no, so he cuts corners to get what he wants. The problem is that he's laying the groundwork for a tyrant to emerge by consolidating power in the executive branch.

You make a good point about leaving it possible for a tyrant to rise to power after him. Having said that, Trump runs the U.S like it's a company rather than a nation. I also think it's possible Trump consolidated power like that because of all the opposition he's faced since taking office since a lot of people are out to get or undermine him.

In a company, the CEO is effectively a monarch. Last I checked, the US does not operate that way, and the Constitution was crafted in direct opposition to the monarchy model.

You can't run the nation like a company because it's illegal to do so. No matter how butt-hurt you are that people don't like your ideas.

Good point. While I'm not directing this as a rebuttal of you, what you're saying further proves my point that Trump isn't a tyrant.

I didn't say he was :) Would he be one if given the opportunity? Yeah, probably, but not by design. He only knows the business world, where the CEO is the king and there are almost no checks and balances in place to keep him/her from making terrible decisions. The only governmental structure that he would be comfortable in is as a monarch.

What he's doing now (probably) isn't consciously intended to create a dictatorship, but it's still the direction he's going because he's just trying to go about doing business. The problem comes when doing so consolidates power under the executive branch and renders the other branches' checks and balances either useless or powerless.
