The worst part is that I KNOW that this news is true and not a photoshopped image...
Now I won't comment on left or right (two terms in politics rarely used in the correct context), but of all the crazy stories I heard of weapons being confiscated, a missile like that complete with launcher, is the most extreme story I ever heard, and if I didn't see this in the news (on a rather trustworthy channel I must add) myself, I'd never believe this to be true.

I wonder if movie scriptwriters could make this one up, though.... Reality often beats the wildest fantasies, I suppose.

Its quite calm compaired to what happened a month or less ago in Germany. A far right group was arrested for planning to instigate revolutionary conditions in Berlin and blame tje left.

I didn't hear about that one, and that while I do follow the news very closely. Since I live in the Netherlands, the German news (political news in particular) is always deemed pretty important in the news channels I follow, so that surprises me. Of course, there are two things that overshadow most of the German news now. The worries about the health of Angela Merkel, since she's been shaking a lot lately, and the murder of Walter Lübcke, by an extremist, because of his stance against racism, and his support for Merkel's "Wir schaffen das" policy. A political murder with a motive like that is (also thanks to the Holocaust) very extremely sensitive in Germany.

Still, when MH17 was shot down with a BUK missile (as a Dutch I've seen a lot of news about that incident), a lot of experts already explained how hard it is to fire a missile and that not just any idiot can do that, but that years of professional training is required. And then seeing one being confiscated from a group of extremists, does cause me to worry. And if people with with nazi-ideals can get a hold of a missile, so can extremists with other ideologies... Now I don't know how hard it is to fire this thing and if you can even compare it with a missile like BUK, but still... I don't believe just any sucker can fire a missile like that, and that thing also looks pretty professional and not just a home-made rocket or something like that... Shiver...

"Since I live in the Netherlands"

I think you meant to say swamp Germany. XD jk

"there are two things that overshadow most of the German news now"

Yes Lücke and Merkel's Health have been very big topics latley. Altho the president of the EU Commission has also had quite the spotlight in German media.

"and the murder of Walter Lübcke"

Indeed, its just as bad if not worse than the Attempted revolt.

" Altho the president of the EU Commission has also had quite the spotlight in German media. "

Ah, yeah, you mean Ursula von der Leyen? Well she is German, but still I deem that more "European news", since, despite her own nationality she now has to represent the interest of the European Union and all its member states, of which the Netherlands (and not a German swamp... very funny) is also one. Of course, many Dutch were hoping Frans Timmermans would take the spot she got now, so the disappointment is pretty well noticeable in the Dutch media. (Of course, now Timmermans will be von der Leyen's right hand man, so I guess that is also an obvious reason for the Dutch media to follow this so well).

"Indeed, its just as bad if not worse than the Attempted revolt."

In a certain sense, yeah. Although Walter Lübcke is just one man who is killed, he *is* killed for what he stood for, as a politician, and this murder did therefore strike fear in politicians with the same vision, and the chance of getting yourself killed should (especially not in a democracy like Germany) not be the reason why a politician changes his mind and the way they do their jobs. Now I also do not approve of the need to send bodyguards with the Dutch politician Geert Wilders, even though I despise his political agenda.... The fact that these bodyguards are needed means there are people who want him dead which is just as wrong. Playing a devil's advocate here, but I wanna be fair, even on people who revolt me.

And I was already worried about the "tone" of political debates these days, as well inside as outside the political "theater", but I fear the true trouble is only yet to begin....

I'm not paranoid, am I?

", many Dutch were hoping Frans Timmermans would take the spot"

I can imagine. I actually also think Timmermans should have gotten the spot. While I have nothing against Von Der Leyen, I think her appointment, instead of Timmermans, was West Europe bowing down to east European authoritarians who he criticized. Additionally, I did also like him more cause he was a Social Democrat if I remember Correctly.

Infact the SPD used their Veto powers as coalition partners and forced Merkel to withhold her vote when the council chose the Commission President nominee, not only in the spirit of international Solidarity with their Social Democratic brothers, but also as a sign that the chosing someone who didn't even run in tbe EU-Elections is against the spitzenkandidaten principle.

"Playing a devil's advocate here, but I wanna be fair, even on people who revolt me. "

Yes indeed. We should live in a world where everyone should be able to present their opinions and positions without being killed for it. Even Nazis unfortunately.

Frans Timmermans is indeed the European Frontman of the PvdA (Partij van de Arbeid) which is the social democrat party in the Netherlands. And I shall reveal that I voted for him in the last European Parliament elections. Now it is ironic that Timmermans was indeed rejected by the East bringing von der Leyen in his stead who has views that are pretty much the same as those of Timmermans or at least pretty close, so I don't think the East got what they wanted with her. It is indeed a bit of a strange game that we have in how the president is chosen. Now I already counted on it that Timmermans (nor Weber) would be the next one to get the spot, as in Europe goes that the more your name is mentioned the lower the chance you'll be the one who gets it, and I think that is a pretty odd tradition. Now I think Von Der Leyen will be a good alternative, and I've heard her say things I can agree with, so all's well that ends well, but the procedure that let to her assignment is not very good to break the conspiracy stories by Europhobes. (A play on the word "Eurofiel" invented by Wilders, which I took on as a name of honor. Means "Europhile").

Now Von Der Leyen wants to make the spitzenkandidaten system more transparent, which is ironic since the lack of transparency is what brought her in this position. At least it's not a europhobe who got the job.... I hope that counts for something. ;)

Ha! I also voted for the Social Democrats in the last elections

"Now it is ironic that Timmermans was indeed rejected by the East bringing von der Leyen in his stead who has views that are pretty much the same as those of Timmermans or at least pretty close, so I don't think the East got what they wanted with her."

Yeah. I've always known Von der Leyen as more of a Conservative and I honestly was surprised by her Speech in front of the European Parliament and the positions she seems to support. And you also notice that the East and right wing groups were also surprised

"Now I think Von Der Leyen will be a good alternative"

Indeed, if one were to ignore how she got to the position, Von der Leyen immediately becomes a big plus for Pro-European positions

"but the procedure that let to her assignment is not very good to break the conspiracy stories by Europhobes." ... "Now Von Der Leyen wants to make the spitzenkandidaten system more transparent, which is ironic since the lack of transparency is what brought her in this position."

Indeed. The President of the Commission should be suggested by Parliament and not the European Council. But such a change would be heavily opposed by the East and members of the right wing who would see it as the Eu becoming too powerful. Ironically, the people who complain the most about the EU's lack of Democracy are the one's most opposed to it.

"At least it's not a europhobe who got the job.... I hope that counts for something. ;)"

I doubt the EU would survive a month if a Europhobe became Commission President XD

Its just the conservative agenda doesn't speak to Trans people. God knows I know a few Conservative Trans people who would vote Conservative (That is to say AfD or CDU/CSU) but don't because their agenda is definitely Anti-Trans (Well for the AfD atleast not sure about the CDU/CSU)
