So. This is information publicly available from the DHS and Border agencies. Net immigration (both legal and undocumented) under the previous 2 administrations was on a down trend.
Meaning that if 1,000 people came into the country over the Mexican border, 1200 were gong back. The holding areas that Fox likes to announce were built under Obama? Yeah, they were. But they only held people there for a few hours at the most before being processed properly by the system.
And no shit, when immigration was at the lowest it had ever been Trump starts saying there's a massive crisis at the border and announces a 0 tolerance.
Now, instead of turning some people away or if they claimed asylum start teh asylum process (which involved investigations, etc) everyone who shows up at the border is treated as if they had broken the law.
Now EVERYONE has to be processed by the DOJ. EVERYONE is being treated as a criminal. Families are being forcibly separated with no plan or process on how to reunite them.
So, yeah, there wasn't a crisis. Then Trump said there was a crisis. And then he made one happen.
