He made some great films, but to hold him up as a role model in 2019, would only work for the KKK and other extremist groups.

I used John Wayne because his characters were always the paragon of manliness & authority. The meme was just meant to encourage dads to embrace their father figure role because I find the idea of "toxic masculinity" being kicked around the media to be absurd. I don't know about Wayne's personal beliefs; if he was a racist, that is unfortunate.
