During the recession, many States gave many of their growing numbers of homeless one way bus tickets to California, the balmy weather considered a 'humane' alternative to taking care of their own since they blew their coffers on Wall Street during the boom and the Sequester eleiminated programs those poor States had like rent vouchers.
They also tried sending them to NYC, because of a percieved higher level of benefits (tell that to anyone living in this expensive place). Mayor Bloomberg finally started sending them back to their home States, because our shelters were overflowing.
