Nikola Tesla was a genius, and Thomas Edison "employed" Tesla on promise of payment later. After performing lots of research, fixing his machines, and garnering several patents which Edison stole from him, Tesla asked for his payment to which Edison said "you don't understand our American humor", at which point he stiffed Tesla and they ended their partnership. Edison used Tesla to pad his own pockets, stole his ideas, published them as his own, and then sent him packing with nary a dime to show for it, hence making him one of the sleaziest scumbags in history. That among many other things, which you can read at the link below if you're interested in a really entertaining comic presentation...it's definitely worth the read! I have to re-read it every time I hear anything about Tesla.

Wow, that was a very passionate comic strip. I had no idea Tesla had invented all those things, and never got the credit for them.

Thank you for sharing that :)

It's a bit of a long read but it's pretty good stuff!

Edison used to allow many young inventors to use his lab spaces to work. Then he would get the patents for himself and pass them off as his own

I had never seen that side of old Thomas before. I always assumed he thought up all these inventions himself, by sitting there and thinking, but that's very rarely the way it works

When you really get down into it you realize that not much of what he's credited for was actually his...the industrial revolution was a different time that's for sure.
These days it would be tougher to get away with that sort of stuff

We can thank him for shutting down Tesla's free energy technology. I remember this P.O.S. every time I pay my power bill.

Rockefeller, Carnegie, JP, Vanderbilt...it's a list longer than it should be. Ever see the documentary "Men who built America"?

it's a great series, really long. there are like 5 or 6 of the movies and they are all 1-1/2 to 2 hours long each, but once i started watching them i was hooked and couldn't stop.
