What is often overlooked in this story is actually the tank commander. He was ordered to move forward and crush anything in his path, but he refused. He tried to evade around the tank man but could not, so he got out of the hatch and actually had a conversation with him, probably warning him that he has a job and he has to move forward and asking him to just give it up. The tank man wouldn't, so the commander got back into the tank and started the engine. But still he was reluctant to simply crush the man, and tried again to evade him leading to the stand off again, until finally someone fulled the tank man away.
This commander was later tried for treason against the people and either was executed or put in a hard labor camp.
