For a long time now we have been giving $ to Pakistan which has been going to the Taliban. It started b4 Obama but he was too wimpy to change it.
Now Trump is stopping aid to Pakistan but they still fund those groups.

The reasoning going back to Bush was that we needed Pakistan to transport weapons overland to Afganistan, since Iran was not an option and it's a long drive from the Pacific coast of Russia.

But without that funding, Pakistan would be short on money to funnel into the Taliban in the first place.
