Not to mention an engineering marvel like the great pyramid. It's our hubris today that makes most think we are so much better today then ever in the past. And like you said, it was a loving tribute to their God. Imagine having a Michelangelo painting the ceilings of structures today. Look at what passes for music now as compared to a Mozart, Tchaikovsky or Bach. Or even the great Italians that built beautiful churches after coming to America.
