it's sad...one of the most humbling things to me about being a Christian is that we are all the same, we are all capable of doing bad things, we are all capable of doing good things. Christian belief does not excuse us of being bad, if anything it makes me even more concious of my bad behavior. It also makes me more thankful for the grace that i believe in.
I'll speak for myself, in that you won't ever catch me acting holier-than-thou...and if you do then call me out on it.

never really thought about it but "devout atheist" is sort of an oxymoron is it not? :) I am not a brow beater or bible thumper, in fact i believe that doing that is the fastest way to turn people away from God. Having said that, if you're interested in talking sometime just holler, but I have nothing to gain in volunteering my opinions [respectfully of course, one sinner to another :-)] without your asking for them. Yes you make a good point. I still learnt about Christianity growing up in school and even used to go to this church down the road once a week, they’d put on various sports and games which is the main reason why I went, but they would teach us things from the bible about good values etc. And some of that surely would have contributed to how I act as a person today? Even if I don’t actually believe in a god, never say never. But I don’t think I could ever become religious. But I’m sure more devout atheists have before me. 🤷🏼‍♂️

i'm not Christian (or religious at all) and i agree. i've known lots of people who act better than others because of their religion. like i said, i'm not religious, but isn't theism (and especially Christianity) supposed to be about loving everyone and being a good person in general?

There's a difference between religion and faith and I feel like many confuse the 2 although they are both integrated. Some people focus only on the religion, the rituals, traditions, act of attending a church etc. The exterior manefestation of a belief or creed. They have very little interior belief that drives them and thus they live a hypocrytical life. Faith is a virtue like love and hope that becomes a part of you, inspires you to do good for the sake of God. These are the people that truly inspire.
