Too many of the same templates, with slightly altered names. Should we get rid of some of them?

I'm willing to bet a fair number of those were uploaded before that template became popular. Even though the popular template is available, users probably like having theirs available in imgflip.com/my-templates

You might not notice, but the popular templates are always changing. New ones come in, old ones phase out according to how often they are captioned. As certain meme templates become less popular over time, the user contributed versions of those start getting deleted.

as to the OP's suggestion:
- yes we should get rid of them
as to MOD's argument
- set abundant 'my-templates' from 'shared publicly' to 'private' and/or give them an expiry date, e.g. 'not captioned for more than a year'

few exceptions may apply in case of improvements/modifications
- e.g. re-scaled sizes
- better resolution
