Or perhaps he's saying that american citizens should be armed. If the mosque's congregation(or whatever it's called in islam, not sure if it's the same) are citizens, then yes they should be armed.

Like the Islamic Society of Boston? The Boston Marathon bombers worshiped there and were both citizens. Or maybe the Islamic Community Center of Phoenix, where the Curtis Culwell Center attackers (all citizens) worshiped? Or perhaps the Dar al-Hijrah Islamic Center, where the Fort Hood shooter (a US citizen and member of the military) worshiped?

A well-armed citizenry that is as diverse and divided as ours comes with some serious collateral damage. Just making sure you're ok with that.

Nope. It means we regulate the production of cars to require things like seatbelts, air bags, bumpers, and crash tests.

Regulations are written in blood. That's why we have them. Usually, this is where we'd try to have a conversation about gun regulation, but that conversation is so tired and overdone. So let's skip to the end.

There's not an easy solution here, but the "we need more guns" argument comes with very serious consequences. If you're ok with mosques with terrorist ties having the same access to guns that you do, and increasing that access, I mean ok, but really?

I mean you can call it a straw man if you like, but that doesn't make it true. Mosques are targeted frequently all over the country, and have stepped up their security measures as a result. Gun rights activists have kept a constant refrain that what the country needs is more guns in the hands of would-be victims in order to deter and neutralize threats. If this is accurate, and gun restrictions are loosened with this in mind, then you're about to have mosques (who experience threats and violence on a frighteningly frequent basis) to stockpile weapons for self-defense.

Again, not saying that's necessarily bad, just that there's a lot to consider there. Deregulating guns for you also deregulates guns for them.
