Interesting idea, but unprovable by nature and encourages a wee bit of lazy thinking.

It's a simple question: ok, smarty, what is this a distraction from?

Say you think it's a distracting from corrupt banking laws. Ok, then the day comes when the newspaper reports on corrupt banking laws. So what now? Where we at? Then you say "ahhh, but that's a distraction from how the banks fund toxic pesticides in agribusiness!" Then an investigation into that comes in, then you have to dig yourself a new rabbit hole. And so on.

I'm not saying it's not true that there's a sector of the economy somewhere that has avoided media scrutiny this way - but my question is, it this a useful approach to bringing the truth to light? I don't think it is.

Looking at the OP's memes it would seem that the angle being pumped here is one of the nefarious MSM distracting from the superb economy blessed upon us by Glorious Leader through his sheer awesomeness.

The way I look at it - *everyone's* unhappy with journalism standards. I've never met the person who says "you know, you gotta trust the newspapers. They try their best." And I don't think I'm ever going to. The conservatives don't have a monopoly on that sentiment.

Then people try to manipulate that sentiment for their own purposes like I'm not going to notice what they're doing.

If it were that easy, guys, then why be angry at the media at all????

No matter what, there's plenty for anyone to be disatified with - what some consider 'news worthy' stories ignored, details ommitted, claims of bias, etc.

What we see is growing moves to attempt to discredit journalism as a cheap and easy way to dismiss criticism or other (and usually more astute) perspectives - the lazy person's way to not have to deal with inconvenient facts or insight.

That's one reason why I say I don't do links. They're usually selected from biased sources, and if you try to counter that with additional sources, you're chided with charges of the same with the person not even bothering to look at them for the sake of discussion.
Even better is when you do look, and the source actually contradicts their position, yet they still yammer on otherwise like the problem is your perception.

So it's utilized simply as a weapon, rather than info to be examined.

Exactly. The tactic is less about discourse and more to waste as much of my time as possible. I don't let them.

Yup, and when they ask for a source, they never check. It's just another thing to for them to deride. They get you to do their homework while they sit back and reply with "lol libtard were ar you're facts?"

I'm not sure that this is necessarily an attack on the media. The OP has stated it is " just a meme."

I do think that there is distraction, and that many of the "issues" in the public discourse are not worthy of the level of discussion that they receive. Regardless of your view of the state of our economy, there is still that $22T debt...
