The birdhouse is behind my house and I witnessed the baby bluebirds leaving their nest. The Mom calls to them from a nearby branch to leave. I was ready with a camera for this one :-)

Turkeys can fly, though. I also thought they didn't. But one buzzed my truck last summer when we were in Colorado

If I had my window down, I could have touched a giant hawk that was going to fly in front of me, then bailed and flew beside me for a moment.
It was really cool looking :-)

That must have been awesome. Of course, if you had touched it you probably would have wound up losing a finger

Yeah, that was actually yesterday I almost hit that thing. I would have gotten my ass kicked by it because it was a hunter, with all its hardware :-)

Thems good eatin' though.
We don't get a lot of neat wildlife in these parts. I'm more likely to hit a pigeon than anything else

I work second shift and am always in fear of smacking a deer on my way home.

If was definitely a trip seeing deer just hanging out and grazing on the side of the road in the middle of the city

I had birds that nested in the window box of my old apartment on the third floor, and one time one of the baby birds tried flying a little too soon. But he was ok, animal control got him and put him back into the nest. And I believe he was gone the next morning.

That’s a nice story how you saw the little one get a bit too eager to fly when it wasn’t quite time.
I’m glad they were able to give it another chance.
Bluebirds have several broods a year in the house out back, and once a baby was floundering on the ground. The Mom was staying with him, but it’s a very vulnerable situation to be in. I wore gloves and set him up on a tree branch to get him off the ground. As far as I know, he did ok :-)

To be able to watch them hatch is amazing. My friend had a small school, and one day I let the kids come over so they could see the baby birds up close. I also scared crows away, although one year they did get one of them.
Nature is an amazing thing.

That’s so cool you shared it with the kids :-)
I built the birdhouses here, but I never realized how much trouble I’d have keeping predators and other birds from wrecking the bluebird nest, eggs or babies.
Luckily, there’s several groups born and raised every year <3

How could I not share it with the kids? Being able to watch the baby birds from hatching to when they fly away was a real treat. And just makes you appreciate nature even more. I can understand your point though of the more you have the more you have to protect. Then they just keep coming back, for years and years, every spring.

I’ve witnessed a house wren puncturing the eggs of a Carolina Chickedee, then toss them out of the box. The House Sparrow is the worst, I’ve seen them: smash bluebird eggs, kill baby bluebirds, kick out the adults then start building a nest on top of baby bluebirds, toss out live babies... it’s horrible :-(
You can bet, when March comes around and the birds begin their rituals, I’m watching very closely!

As I mentioned, one time I saw a crow fly and just pluck one of the baby birds out of the nest and fly away with it. One of the reasons I tried to shoo them away from my window area as much as I could. The things animals do to each other is not always nice, it is sad. :(
Take good care of your birds and their babies. :)

There are a lot of bluebirds around here nowadays <3
I also had the chickadees several years, but that box was damaged and I didn’t make a new one.
A few times tree swallows had moved in. Tree swallows eat bugs as they fly, they’re like little fighter jets!
I hated to go into the bad things the birds have done, especially with you. You are that bright spot that I can count on for kindness and an uplifted spirit <3
Peace to you :-)

Thank you for your compliments. Being nice isn't hard. And what can you say but some birds are a**holes.
Enjoy taking care of the birds and their babies, whoever nests there.

LMAO! WKRP is one of my favorites. We stumbled across The Thanksgiving episode last November channel surfing. "Planes, Trains And Automobiles" has been a yearly Thanksgiving night ritual for decades, maybe I should add WKRP to the lineup. COMWITIPLLWOTP :-)

Actually, when I met my wife, she looked like Janice :-)

You can see what she put up with! I looked like one of the Ramones :-)
Perhaps she knew one day I’d be one of a COMWITIPLLWOTP!
I wondered earlier about spelling Janice, and I realized it’s because the name was Janet.
It’s been a long time!
As far as your picture, who did your nails? :-)

What a cutie (your wife)...she did look like Janet. I met my wife 8 years ago Feb 12th so I don't have any vintage photos of us, but if I did my hair would probably look a lot like Tennille's. COMWITIPLLWOTP :-)
