I agree with you, especially the last part. It is about plastic, not about straws. I think going at straws is just a distraction by the government over real issues. The reason being California's ban on straw is actually on table restaurants, where waiters will no longer give you straws unless you ask for me. (At least that was the latest I read, I haven't kept up with the news. perhaps they banned it all). However, majority of straw usage are actually at fast food joints, in straw dispensers and they were not affected at all.
