That one is pretty nice. I couldn't fit my model 700 in a guitar case although I can play my music's from much farther away. :)

I wanted a 700 but got a stinking good deal on a weatherby vanguard. Put a 3-9x50 leupold vx-II on top, it drives tacks at 200 yards, I love it.

Weatherby makes a great Rifle and the VX is leopolds best. (good pairing)

The vanguard is weatherby's economy model, made in Japan actually. Dont go thinking I got something with hand checked walnut stocks or anything! It's just good old injection molded poly and your standard blued barrel. Lots of folks swear by the vx-III but I didnt have the coin to get one at the time, so I got the vx-II but I love it and it has the same quality and guarantee behind it. Definitely a solid combo.

Well enough for me, but then I'm not in it for competitions or anything. A 14x would be nice, but I just dont need it.

This deer season I played my music from 25o yards away. My longest shot so far. (Fine. My 8 longest shots so far.

That's pretty far for Deer hunting. What state? I use a 30/30 w 4x Redfield (raised above iron sights) for deer here in NorCal. Got a good 4x4 blacktail at about 35 - 40ft. I shoulda just knifed him. :)

I actually shoot a Savage Axis Straight from the box 30.06 rifle and scope combo that I bought for $350 at Cabelas a few years back We hunt Whitetail up here in Utah between Park City and the Wyoming Border. This year's Buck was a 24 1/2 incher, so I was pretty happy with my concert.

Of course a European wouldn't understand ;)

Any gun is a practical self defense weapon, well I guess I'd cut the line at a 50 Cal BMG but anything less is perfectly fine imo
