Wish we had it

We and my friends in Australia watch what's going on, we talk about it very often. we are definitely on trump's side - we know extreme right when we see it, and left positions stand out like a sore thumb. You guys don't have balanced news at all it seems, neither do we though, is letter. No one over here liked their priminister, elections are nearly always 50/50, then someone unelected by the people challenges them anyway

What is the main reason you support Trump?
Y'all also have a form of mandatory voting which we don't have. That probably contributes to the 50/50 split in your elections. Both sides have to appeal to the middle in order to get elected so naturally there will be a lot fewer landslide victories.

I was talking with an aussie last night, he said their politics are gridlocked nearly as bad as ours and the independent parties still get overpowered by the big ones. Not sure how different it really is, if he was telling the truth.

Yeah even if the 2 parties still dominate, the threat of that 3rd party with a ranked choice voting system forces the candidates to moderate themselves to appeal to a broader swath of voters. Thus less extreme candidates from the major parties.
It could also possibly help prevent career politicians since it will be easier to defeat incumbents.

Frankly, as an Aussie, I'm so disinterested in our politics, I know way more about the American system. Ill be taking that day off work to watch the next American election
