If you read the Declaration of Independence you will know what the Founders were dealing with. It lists lots of things that the king did that they wanted to avoid in their new country. The Second Amendment was designed to give the people the power to fight back against a tyrannical government, should it come to that. That's why it was written in there, the people being the militia that should rise up against a government that no longer serves them.
