SO.
Planned Parenthood is a health care provider that accepts patients who have Medicaid. You know how, when you go to the doctor and you have health insurance, you only pay a fraction of the full cost? That's because your insurance pays the rest of it. When your insurance is Medicaid, that means a government program (that is funded by tax dollars) picks up that tab.
As such, everyone with Medicaid who goes to PP for health care contributes to the amount of money they receive from the government. This is PP's only source of federal funding. Individual states, on the other hand, have the ability to provide state funds to PP, and many do.
For the record: Medicaid does not cover abortions. There is a law that specifically forbids this, and again, PP is very careful not to break laws considering they are so closely scrutinized. Financial assistance for abortion services is funded privately.
OhWell: That is perfectly reasonable. However, be careful - PP offers vital health care (mammograms, STI testing, cancer screenings, preventive health measures, etc.) to people who do not have another option. Medicaid is a paperwork nightmare, and as such many health care providers do not accept it. In addition, PP offers low-cost services to people who are uninsured. If you want to force PP not to accept Medicaid, you need to force another organization to that has the resources to deal with the crap PP deals with and the amount of locations to reach everyone who needs them. To my knowledge, there isn't one, but if there is, you need to lean on them to accept Medicaid.
I am totally cool with that. Even if it's a faith-based organization, it's an organization that actually helps people in need. PP will not stop offering abortion services, even if they lose access to Medicaid. You won't be hurting them. If you don't fund a comparable alternative, you'll only be hurting poor people. Don't be that guy.
