Thing is, Russian bots (including the shills often lumped with them) are real - an identified and verified tool of the International Research Agency (included the recruited shills). The way they all simultaneously suddenly starting memeing NPC en masse is typical bot behavior.

NPC are just screen characters and do not interact on social media nor meme (Guess that fits with the "The left can't meme" derp then).

The NPC meme is used to mock people who just repeat the same talking points without formulating an actual arguement. Like all the offended whiners and any religious fundamentalists. Its effective because it reflects reality.
