Bubble wrap is made to be addictive. Since other forms of packing protection exist, there's no other explanation. People don't play with packing peanuts or those air filled pillows of plastic.
If there were a way to reload the bubble wrap cells, indefinitely, it would make a great kids toy. I'm surprised they haven't figured that one out yet. :-)
