The notion behind the plastic ban is because of landfills and the ocean pollution, etc, but killing trees and whatnot is kinda missing the point. The earth 'saving' zagnuts will advocate bamboo or whatever quick growing wood, but I get the sneaking suspicion them plants ain't overjoyed at the prospect,,,

Paper straws do not suck … because they fall apart in your drink. I used them in the 70's and they were horrible.

My sister had a party recently and use paper straws. People were very vocal about their dislike of them.

Being a tree hugger doesn't necessarily mean you only want to save trees. They want to save the environment, and since plastic is destroying our world, wood and paper would be a better alternative since it is renewable, biodegradable and recyclable. However, since we are at a point were we would never be able to get rid of plastic entirely, we have recycling programs and plants for unused plastic.

Exactly! I was using "tree hugger" as a euphemism for environmentalists. Is a complex issue without one blanket solution. There is too much plastic to waste but at the same time I have had one plastic comb for like 20 years. A comb made of natural material (wood? bone?) would not likely last nearly that long.

would not matter how long your comb lasts. it would be years or decades, at 3 bucks thats like .00000000000001 cents a day.

What I saying is... every time I need a "organic" comb a tree needs to come down or an animal needs to be killed. of course you can get more the one comb per tree or animal but living things need to die. I don't think you will get more then a couple years of use out of an organic comb before it breaks or becomes unusable. Plastic is the superior material, in that regard, but you have the disposal issue. The solution is the problem and the problem is the solution depending on your point of view. Endless Solutions

Plastic is a superior material to wood in many ways, however, wood is renewable and can brake down with ease. We are never going to get rid of plastic, but it would be a lot smarter to stop using so much, turning instead to paper and wood products.

The only horror is what humans are doing to the world.

That is probably somewhere that doesn't recycle or have return deposit on plastic bottles. I'm not saying that is the "end all" solution but it does help. My brother went to Cancun Mexico and he said if you travel inland from the idyllic and pristine beaches you run across areas like this.

As in physically running across trash? That seems quite fun I must say.
