I’ve heard that the Greek word used could mean fermented or unfermented grape juice. Only thing is, you would figure experienced drinkers would be able to tell the difference. It was even “better”... : )

The word's "oinos" (Greek) or "yayin" (Hebrew) can be used to describe fermented or unfermented juice. Context is how you discern which meaning to use in the "semantic domain" of any word.

There is this popular theory in some circles of teetotaler Christians called the "two wine theory" which says that anywhere the bible talks about the negative aspects or consequences of wine it means fermented (alcohol) and anywhere it talks about the benefit of wine or it being a blessing from God it means "an unfermented agricultural product" (juice.)

While that makes sense on the surface (we should look at context to discern which meaning to use of any word) I have heard preachers and bible teachers ignore the context of the passage you mentioned (John 2) at the wedding in Cana.

Direct quote from a preacher, "If you think that Jesus made fermented wine and gave it to people who were already "well drunk" you are saying that the sinless Son of God has a lower standard than modern bartenders who follow rules that say they should not continue to serve alcohol to those who are already very drunk."

They are so against alcohol that they ignore context and the method of their own theory so they can claim Jesus didn't turn the water into alcoholic wine.

I'm a teetotaler and I don't touch the stuff. But I can't in good conscience say that the bible condemns drinking *full stop* because the prohibition in the bible is drunkenness not the actual drinking. Ephesians 5:18

I think the wisest thing to do is not to touch alcohol because you can't be tempted to get drunk if you never take sip.

Lol! (On the meme) : D True, there is no commandment “thou shalt not drink alcohol”. But I agree, all scripture should be taken in context. In first Timothy it says it is good for stomach ailments, but in Corinthians it says that drunkards will not enter the kingdom of heaven. And yes, Jesus himself did drink wine, but I doubt that he ever got drunk on it. I believe moderation is the key, and if you are the type of person who can’t drink a few beverages without having to get drunk, then you shouldn’t drink. It is better to be “sober minded”, so nothing gets in the way of your fellowship with God.
