So, we need more plants, then, not more animals. Plants, especially trees, help to absorb co2 and actually lock it in. So, lets stop chopping down so many forests to make room for animal agriculture, eh?

Yes, I support the abolition of all animal abuse. That includes factory and organic, "free-range" farming, too, as all of these animals are also abused, treated as mere objects and end up in a slaughterhouse. Can we compassionately kill someone who doesn't want to die?
0 ups, 5y
Because growing plants in the same conditions - only no slaughterhouse before they hit the oven - is fine?

Ok, so, how would you feel if that was the flesh of those dogs?

We don't eat dogs. Dogs are our friends. Cows are food.

Ok, so why are cows food and dogs arent? How come dogs are friends and cows are "food" when both have feelings and we acknowledge that by "humanely" slaughtering cows? Why the differential treatment i.e. what trait is there that do dogs don't have that means they don't deserve to be slaughtered that cows do have?

Basic common sense should hold the answer.

Now you're getting philosophical. These are questions above my pay grade...what is conciousness? What makes a sentient being? What is self-awareness?...who knows? I just hope our Space- Alien Overlords dont suddenly appear one day with the intention of harvesting the human race for food!! But if they do, I say to them: "EAT THE CANADIANS FIRST!"- They're much tastier! πŸ€£β˜ƒοΈπŸ™ˆβ„πŸ™ŠπŸ§

First off you are completely wrong about cows sheep and goats only being able to produce milk when they are pregnant...try doing some basic research before posting more false information in the future.

Funny how your side thinks they are the only ones that should have choices in life and everyone else should change what they eat,say and think to appease you and your brethren.

Take your veggie burgers, soy milk and your holier that thou attitude and stick em where the sun don't shine...the world doesn't revolve around your infantile causes.

Have a goodnight

Completely wrong? So, I guess your own mom is still making milk, even though she's probably not pregnant and not feeding you anymore, right? I am an activist and have done a ton of research and found this info, amongst many other info sources that all say the same thing: all female mammals only produce milk when they've had a baby. Doesn't this mean that milk is for baby cows, goats and sheep? They are emotionally and physically abused for it. https://www.peta2.com/news/why-cows-produce-milk/

"Funny how your side thinks they are the only ones that should have choices in life and everyone else should change what they eat, say and think to appease you and your brethren." - So, if you were being abused, caged, having your children taken away from you and murdered, wouldn't you want it to stop and for people to have a lifestyle that didn't torture you? When we pay for animal products and animal abuse, we pay for these animals to be abused like this. Furthermore, wouldn't you think that others should speak out against it? Vegans gain nothing by making others vegan. We're speaking out for the animals who have no choice and who have feelings, thus we actually don't have a holier than thou attitude. We don't think we're better than or more deserving of life than others, that's why we're vegan. Were not trying to be vindictive. Were just trying to get others to have a more compassionate lifestyle.

"The world doesn't revolve around your infantile causes." - So, how is the cause for the planet, the animals and peoples health infantile? Can you elaborate?

infantile: adjective. Of or relating to infants or infancy. Displaying or suggesting a lack of maturity; childish: infantile behavior; an infantile remark.

Hi there Rachel, to start off with It was rude of me to basically tell you to forcibly insert the contents of your fridge into your rectum and for that I do apologise.

As for lactating cows needing to be pregnant...it is possible to get cows induced into lactation with estrogen and progesterone and some other hormones I forgot but it's not cost/production effective for the industrial conveyor belt farming industry and the "natural" side probably views it like a GMO.

So I was wrong in saying that you are completely wrong but you did state that the only way cows can lactate is if they are pregnant and that isn't accurate.

Thinking about the emotional trauma experienced by the Mama cow having her baby takin away from her there is a simple solution for that adapted from Democrat acceptance...simply wait till the 3rd trimester or right up until birth give the cow an abortion and she will continue to make milk for an average of 280 days and without having ever gave birth to a calf and since it really isn't a baby calf till after it would have been born the Mama cow goes on without having to feel the pain/trauma of her baby being taken away from her.

Really it's all about how you look at it...Happy Cows happy life😁

Hi Rachel! Still fighting the good fight, hey?

I worked on a farm when I was younger. Planting and harvesting celery. The cows would moo at me every morning as I'd give them the parts I'd pick off after harvest.

Hi, SydneyB! Yep, still fighting for the animals.
Ok, so, first thing: since you gave the cows the bits off of the celery, that meant that your instinct was to see them as the sentient individuals they are, right? Like, you knew that they might like this treat and they thanked you, right?
This shows how it's our instinct to be compassionate towards animals, not to kill them. Would you agree?
Second: since I can tell you went and fed them this celery out of compassion, was this feeding a consolation when they were killed in the slaughterhouse?
So, why pay for others to kill animals when we don't need to eat them?
1 up, 5y
No, it was a neighboring farm and I didn't have to. And they loved me for it and the farmer appreciated it as well.

I didn't kill them. It'd be tough as they ran to me.

I do think less meat should be eaten.

Them's the breaks Bitch, I gotta have my milk! I Often drink a gallon a day! Mmm-mmm...Keeps me strong! I also enjoy eating all kinds of tasty animals. Next, you Wac-Os will be calling for people to be eliminated for breathing too much air. Good luck with that.

Not your mum, not your milk. What about if you were in the animal's position? Would you want someone to kill and eat you? Keeps you strong? Well, I used to think that way, too, until I found out that dairy actually leaches calcium from our bones and causes osteoporosis, as it's so acidic for our bodies. Staving off long term bone problems - good luck with that. Nope, we're not calling for people to be eliminated. Why would we do that? We're just calling for unnecessary abuse of animals (humans are animals, too) to be stopped. So, were not Wac-Os, are we, really?

Point taken, I understand your argument and do agree with parts of it. My earlier reply was too flippant, sorry. It's just that I automatically get worried when I hear any progressives talking about such things as banning meat from our tables, or forcing people to eat bugs...you must understand that won't go over big with most Americans. Fact is though, humans are the top of the food chain on this Earth, and meat & dairy are staples.I have pets that I love, and i am horrified by the idea of any animals suffering, so I would always support any policies dealing with raising & harvesting livestock as humanely as possible. I know we come from opposite sides, but I sense your heart's in the right place, and I wish you the best in your work.

Sorry, I don't get what you mean by "the fallacy of the false dilemma". One is causing unimaginable pain to sentient beings and the other is made of nuts or soya, which don't feel pain mentally or physically. Absolutely, there are options. So, with that in mind, if we can live a lifestyle causing the least amount of harm possible and be healthy, why wouldn't we do that?
0 ups, 5y
How do you know they don't?
Animals 'didn't' a few decades ago.
African slaves 'didn't' a century and a half ago.
And women didn't a century ago.
And still women's unborn progeny 'don't' today.

um..no. You are missing out on so much good food. Go conservative and stop human babies being killed, not animals? what's more important, humans or animals?
0 ups, 5y
Both are important and I don't want either to die unnecessarily. Missing out on food? I don't miss out, at all. Have you seen all the vegan dairy-free milks, cheeses and ice-creams? Also, we really don't need any animal breast milk in our diet. It's toxic for humans in the long run, as it's not made for us. We can get the same protein from plants without any of the suffering. So, if a cow has to be pregnant in order for her body to make that milk, who is it food for? Humans or her calf? Isn't it a bit weird to still be breastfeeding?
