How do you pronounce .gif?

Hard g like golf. Tony Stark would have been smart enough to know this.

Never understood how people came to start pronouncing it "jif" in the first place. Apart from the general grammar rule that would have it more commonly pronounced with a hard G, the G itself stands for the word "graphic" which is indisputably a hard G.

Similarly, the term GUI, the G there also stands for "graphic", and whether you pronounce it "goo" or "goo-ee", it's pronounced with a hard G.

The reason it's Jif is because the creator of it said so.

The pronunciation of "GIF" is specified in the GIF specification to be "jif", as in "jiffy", rather then "gif", which most people seem to prefer. This does seem strange because the "G" is from the word "Graphics" and not "Jraphics".

That last statement doesn't mean anything. It's an acronym. There's no defined way to pronounce acronyms--it's up to the creators.

It's pronounced Jif. The creators of GIF made it a joke derived from the peanut butter company Jif.
