Just like conservatives. After the Las Vegas massacre, I heard Todd Starnes accuse liberals of exploiting that tragedy to push their agenda, and then right after that, he interviewed Christian author Alex McFarland, who compared the Vegas attack to abortion. Yup, no hypocrisy there.

That's not really the point of the meme. The point is someone with a gun, no matter whether law enforcement or civilian, (and despite the fact that the kid shot himself, which he only did when confronted) stopped another tragedy from happening, and all forms of media are dead silent about it.
reply

You don't hear about it in the media because it didn't happen.

The officers shot struck Rollins gun which was in the teens hand.
Nevertheless, Gaskill's quick action confronting Rollins just three minutes after the teen shot two students has been credited with bringing the incident to a quick end. That praise came even when it was unclear which shot killed the teen.
He responded exactly how we train our personnel to respond .
i didn't say anybody shot anyone!
reply
1 up, 1 reply
Maybe liberals wait for the facts. His bullet didn't stop anyone; the kid committed suicide with his own gun. Do try to follow the news?
reply
0 ups
First off, where in the meme does it say anything about Gaskill's bullet stopping anything? It says HE stopped the shooter.

Secondly, this was made 2 days before it was discovered the kid died by his own bullet, and a full week after the incident, with no media firestorm.

Thirdly, he shot himself /because/ he was confronted by Gaskill, unlike the Stoneman Douglas School shooting, where Cruz wasn't stopped because the cowardly officer was hiding out in the parking lot alongside the cowardly sheriff's deputies.

Well to be fair on the average day in America over 300 people are killed by guns and 7 are kids or teens under the age of 19 so it is not surprising when only one kid is killed and two injured it doesn't make a big splash. It seems you have to kill at least 10 kids to make major news in the US these days. (In contrast, in the rest of the developed world, one kid getting shot and injured at school would be major, major news for days) *sigh*
reply

It all comes down to the narrative the liberal media wants to push, which is the whole point of this meme. A (real life) gun-wielding hero goes against that narrative.

As another example, the 276 girls Boko Haram kidnapped 4 years ago. They were everywhere in the news, and there was media-fed global outrage. But what almost nobody I talk knows about is that barely two months before that, Boko Haram went to a school and outright EXECUTED 100 boys, ages 10-16.

Some were shot, some had their throats cut, and the rest were herded into a building, which was then set on fire to burn them alive. There was no global outrage over that, because they were "only males", and that doesn't fit the agenda of "who cares about boys?", so the media didn't even care to /try/ and stir everyone up.

This essentially made Boko Haram realize that all they had to do to get the attention they wanted was go after girls, and do nothing more than kidnap them, because nobody cared about the boys.

And that's not even getting into the 10,000 boys Boko Haram has kidnapped, tortured, and pressganged into their army over the last couple of years.

By the way, the girls in the school were sent home unharmed and ordered to "give up the wicked schooling".

I don't know him, he could beat his wife and be a pedophile for all I know. I know he shot a kid dead but if America dealt with it's rabid gun culture like the other developed countries over the last 30 years then he wouldn't be in a position where he would have to kill a kid.

I blame American law and regulation for putting him in a position that he now has to live with the fact that he killed a kid. For most people, even if you did that for the right reasons is something that is hard to live with.

Even if guns are illegal to own, criminals can still get them.
reply
1 up, 1 reply
If you look at the mass shootings of the last 20 years, very, very few of the people had criminal records or would be considered before the shooting to members of gangs or the criminal underworld. Las Vegas, Sandy Hook, Florida, Columbine, Orlando, the most deadly shootings in US history all were not the a typical criminals you are referring to.

If you make guns illegal then you make it more difficult and more expensive for criminals to get them. Of course some will still be able especially organised crime but I doubt even in today's environment you would take on the mafia, but the majority will find it very difficult.

Have a look at the link below for some statistics on defensive firearm incidents. (pg. 45). This report was compiled in conjunction with the CDC and stated there are between 60,000 and 120,000 events annually that occur where a firearm is part of the active self protection of an intended victim. So compared to the 30,000 annual firearm related deaths (including suicides), you are more than twice as likely to be protected by a firearm than harmed by one.

I understand that guns can reduce the risks of shootings. However, the point I'm not trying to make is to take guns away from everyone, but to place better restrictions to prevent them from getting in the wrong hands so we don't have to prevent mass shootings in the first place. Why do restrictions have to be so hard to place?
Thank you for the link. InarenCorp, if you're reading this, that's all I asked for; a link.

The AR-15 is a semiautomatic functioning rifle, a type of firearm that has been around since the 1800's. The semiautomatic function comprises about 60% of all rifles, 90% of handguns, and 30% of shotguns. So with saying the AR-15 should be banned because of its function (1 trigger pull = 1 projectile expelled), all of those other firearms would have to be banned as well because they all function the same. And making ban decisions based on the appearance of the weapon does nothing either because appearance does not change the function of the rifle. Plus all of these restrictions would be in contradiction to the 2nd Amendment, which is your right as well, as long as you are a US Resident (or Citizen) currently residing in the US.
reply
0 ups
Maybe we should start a new thread to get all this in one spot and so it can be read in proper order. What do you think?
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
So what sort of better restrictions do you propose that would not be a further infringement of the 2nd Amendment right of the other massive amounts law abiding firearm owners? There are already laws not allowing under 18's from purchasing firearms, there are laws not allowing felons to purchase firearms, there are laws not allowing firearms to be carried on school grounds, and laws not allowing murder. But until there is someone to enforce it at every location at every moment, the only people who will absolutely follow those laws are the law abiding who have no criminal intentions. My proposal is to allow unrestricted self defense (and defense of third parties) at all times and at all locations regardless of venue. That is just the first step. An armed society is a polite society.
1 up
For one thing, we shouldn't let any homo sapien wield a gun.
Ok, jokes aside...
If someone has a violent history on them, then they shouldn't own a gun. That's one restriction I'd place.
I prefer not to follow the logic of "more guns, less shootings" because.. um.. look at how that sounds.
reply
0 ups, 1 reply
Violent criminals are already not allowed to own firearms. Any criminal who has committed a felony or someone who has committed certain violent misdemeanors such as domestic violence are already restricted from owning a firearm. These terms or crimes definitions may vary slightly from state to state within the US, but generally speaking they all parallel that explanation. So we have already checked that box, any other suggestions?
0 ups
We should outlaw the AR-15 and any weapons similar. Shotguns, handguns, etc. are difficult to use for mass killing, while the AR-15 can fire tens of bullets per second.

"Maybe we should start a new thread to get all this in one spot and so it can be read in proper order. What do you think?"

Yes, let's do that.

"The AR-15 is a semiautomatic functioning rifle, a type of firearm that has been around since the 1800's. The semiautomatic function comprises about 60% of all rifles, 90% of handguns, and 30% of shotguns. Plus all of these restrictions would be in contradiction to the 2nd Amendment, which is your right as well, as long as you are a US Resident (or Citizen) currently residing in the US."

We could go against assault rifles and rapid firing weapons in general, specifically the ones that are classed as the deadliest. That's all I'll say for now; I'm talking to many at once.

If you look up "shooters stopped by armed civilians", you'll see multiple results of moms saving children, elderly men saving occupants of entire buildings, etc. To deny the fact that civilians wielding guns haven't stopped murders is like denying the existence of Vlad Putin. It's just silly.
Btw, really good lesson in church tonight. :)

Well that's good for America, my kids will just go to school to learn, with me knowing they won't get shot, don't have to practise emergency drills, don't have to be scared and don't have to rely on armed teachers or guards to keep them safe. If you had a choice were would you want your kids to go to school? A country where mass shootings are a regular occurrence and the leader wants teachers to carry guns, or in an environment where guns are not an issue and the most scary thing at school for a kid is having a maths test

And Lot, like every other human being (except Jesus, who is God and man), is sinful. We're all equally bad.
