In one sense, I can agree with that, but in another sense, schools in the US get stupid about the security/cops on the grounds, and 6-year-olds wind up in handcuffs for acting up, or labeled a sexual predator because they like to give hugs.

They should only be security for the exterior of the school, not guards for "the inmates".

Exactly. Most school shooters don't come to school on time. They usually show up at a strategic time in the day at a strategic door with only their gun. Exterior defense could prevent that.

Until a kid brings a handgun in his backpack or pants pocket. Luckily we're talking about banning assaults weapons, to prevent that from happening...

There will never be a single answer. Consider the size, location and other criteria that is needed and the security will have to change, an inner city high school with a large population of known gang members needs more than a rural Alabama one might. I attended Balboa High School, we required the US military to defend our school, took three days and dozens dead, even a few soldiers. I know about the evil men do and I served in Bosnia, what happens when only once side has weapons is not something I would wish on anyone. Sadly, evil has to be fought and the closer the help is, the more people that survive.

You came to my meme to comment, you are more than welcome to do so but understand that I can respond however I choose. You are guilty of the same thing that many of my fellow Americans are. American kids are much more likely to face real dangers outside of school than inside, the shooters although deadly are not what is killing our youth. Drugs, gangs, texting while driving even sports injuries are much worse. The kids and the anti gunners are a solution looking for a common problem. Our citizens own 300 million registered firearms, zero percent will ever harm a soul much less a student. You can do the math for yourself 1400 odd people shot is what percent of 300 million? Students have a much greater chance of falling down stairs than being shot. We think there are twice that many unregistered firearms, no one really knows for sure. The hard truth is firearms will always be available in the USA, no law can ever change it, not possible. That said, I still think our schools should be as secure as any other public location, just like our borders but that is another issue.

I get your point but that is apples vs oranges. They asked about students shot at school. That is a zero percent problem. Gun death numbers across America seem high until you compare them with other issues. That said sticking to actual gun deaths, that would also break down to suicides, accidents, stranger murders, family or friends murders, gangs, criminal acts and a host of others. Consider this, a worker repairing a pool falls to their death that is not a drowning, it is a fall, firearms get the same treatment. Remove the emotion and firearms are not a problem, never have been. We have a violence, hate and oppression problem, the firearms are part of the problem or the solution depending on use, just a tool nothing more.

Another emotion based problem looking for a solution. Immigrants break down into a dozen categories, so do illegals. there will never be a fair one size fits all soultion. Consider the wall best case it allows people to travel back and forth and identify those people. Worst case no one gets in, nether is a solution by itself. You still have to manage both, set rules for both and most important, trust whoever runs the wall. Sounds to me like that is impossible. Better plan, work with as many groups as pony up and will work towards real change, real solutions. I know, I dream big.
